Tijuana is the closest city in Mexico to San Diego. Only 45 minutes from the ALI, Tijuana is easily accessible by both car and trolley. With a population of over one million, Tijuana offers plenty of options for tourists. From museums and bull fights to shopping and a lively nightlife, Tijuana is a great city to visit for an afternoon or day trip.

Rosarito Beach

Rosarito is known as the party town for both college students and the young at heart. Less than one hour by car from the ALI, Rosarito’s beach location and size of the town makes it an ideal destination for a weekend trip. There are plenty of restaurants, hotels, shops, and nightclubs. You can swim in the ocean, play beach volleyball, go surfing, play golf, go fishing, and much more! Don’t forget to visit Foxploration, a real working movie studio where you can go behind the scenes and learn firsthand about the movie-making process in an entertaining and interactive way. Rosarito is also where several scenes from the movie Titanic were filmed.

Ensenada

Ensenada lies on the coast of the Pacific Ocean about two scenic hours by car from the ALI. The third largest city in Baja California, Ensenada offers many places to eat, shop, dance and spend the night. Nearby you will also find the tourist attraction La Bufadora (blowhole in Spanish), a marine geyser in the Pacific Ocean that shoots water up to 24 meters/80 feet in the air. Ensenada is also the heart of Mexico's wine country, where you can take a tour and taste wines at some of Mexico’s oldest and finest wineries.

San Filipe

San Felipe is a picturesque town of 20,000 people on the Eastern coast of Baja California. Only about 3 hours by car from the ALI, San Felipe welcomes visitors with its palm trees, campgrounds, hotels, and beaches. If you like to fish or eat fish, San Felipe is a great place to visit. It has excellent fishing, and this good fish inspired the creation of the Mexican fish taco.

Purchases made in Mexico are duty free, and there is no state sales tax. Each shopper can bring back $400 worth of merchandise, including one liter of alcohol (if over 21), 100 cigars (excluding Cuban), and 200 cigarettes. The U.S. duty is a flat 10 percent for the first $1,000 of merchandise above your $400 allowance. U.S. Dollars, pesos, and major credit cards are accepted.
